Peace Poles are monuments that are erected around the world to symbolize universal peace. Their objective is to reinforce the message “May peace prevail on earth” and in this way they can act as a constant reminder to visualize and pray for peace.
Peace begins in the heart and mind of every individual. As we learn how to respect ourselves, our environment, the animals, and all that is created, gradually we transform the nature of our lives.
History
The Peace Pole Project was started in Japan by The World Peace Prayer Society in 1955, shortly after World War II, by Masahisa Goi. His objective was to bring mankind closer to peace and harmony, and further away from armed conflicts. War begins with violent thoughts and peace prevails with thoughts of peace. Peace poles are a visual reminder for us to keep peace in mind. Today, more than 200,000 peace poles have been placed around the world, in 180 countries.
